so your infant has been diagnosed with a posterior tie — now what?
let’s start by saying, posterior tie isn’t a thing 🌝
ideally, you’re seeing someone who has an understanding that the tongue and a the mouth do not exist in isolation.
a wise next step would be to refer to someone who has an understanding of the totality of our bodies, as opposed to a belief that parts of us, such as the tongue, exist uniquely in isolation from the rest of the body.
the diagnosis of a posterior tie is happening en masse and being blamed as the soul culprit for the slew of symptoms that seem to be presenting downstream from these rigid or restricted tissues (please notice i did not say *tied*) such as clicking while feeding, difficulty coordinating the suck-swallow-breathe mechanism, painful feeds for mom, excessive strength and rigidity in baby, colic, fussiness, and straining while passing gas or bowel movements just to name a few.
what is not being addressed is that the tongue and frenum serve as a homunculus to the rest of the body — meaning that what is happening (or not happening) in the tongue and frenum acts in direct reflection of the rest of the body.
we share this information not to be controversial, but to put the power back in the hands of the parents and take the blame and (both ultimately and bluntly) victimhood out of the equation, and out from under the guise that these “ties” are simply due to untouchable genetic factors.
this just simply is not the case.
in our practice, we see infants every day who are spared unnecessary surgeries because their parents choose conservative care first, such as that which we offer at the inside space. we see immaculate results that lead to more efficient feeds, more ease in baby, increased bonding and connection, improved digestion, more quality sleep for both mom and baby, just to name a few.
all without creating additional trauma that, ultimately, is not based in solid evidence and/or assessment.
how many friends do you have who went through with the promised quick fix of a release only to feel that the results weren’t all they were promised to be?
how does stress tie into this anyway?
